In June of 2016, I received a Bachelor's of Architecture and a Minor in Construction Management and focus in Architect as Developer from The NewSchool of Architecture and Design. In addition to the knowledge I've obtained from my education, my experience as a Designer and Design Manager with a construction management firm has provided me with an excellent background in the practical aspects of the entire design and construction process from the first client idea, through permitting, construction, and that final certificate of occupancy.
Considered a hybrid student between Architecture and Construction Management,
Jose has developed a skill set within both fields of study that has earned him and a
team of 3 Construction Management students and two architecture students back to
back wins at the Associated Schools of Construction Design Build competition, hosted
By Swinerton Builders. Back to back wins meant beating out schools like Cal-Poly,
USC, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and nine other western region schools. To further Challenge himself, Jose and a team of 4 entered the DBIA student competition and won the Western region and placed 6th in the nation for the RFP portion of the competition.
With all these competitions under his belt, the real learning came after working with Balfour Beatty and HOK Architects on a design-build project and with Bowman Consultants as An Assistant construction manager. Jose continues working in the industry to achieve his goals that include investing, developing, designing, building and managing properties that will enhance neighborhoods by providing urban core amenities to dead zones on the outskirts of a city.
